Microwave Office is a completely new suite of RF/microwave design tools
built from the ground up for operation in Windows« Æ95 and NT environments.
Included in the suite are the VoltaireXL linear and nonlinear circuit
simulator and the EMSight full-wave, three-dimensional electromagnetic (EM)
simulator. The entire design solution is constructed using advanced object
oriented programming methods that result in impressive performance,
reliability and ease of use.

Details of above changes
------------------------
1) Simulation speed has been greatly improved for large circuits
Simulating circuits with a large number of nodes (> 50) will be
significantly faster (> 10X) due to new sparse matrix and
incremental solving algorithms. These are enabled from the Default
Ckt Options/Circuit Solvers in the project pane.
2) You can now set the Default Design Directory
You can use the File->Options... command to set the default path
for design files. This is the path that will be displayed when
the File->Open... dialog is opened for the first time. You can
also set the path for the library directory as well as the cache
directory for EM files.
3) Viewing the model file used for a device
You can right-click on a device which has been dragged in from the
library and select View Library Data to see the datafile.
4) Viewing the schematic, netlist, or em structure associated with a subcircuit
You can right-click on a selected subcircuit block and select
Open Subcircuit to see the subcircuit contents.
5) NL Frequency and other Options are grayed out unless they are changed.
This allows you to quickly see which options are locally overriden and
which are not. Grayed out icons indicate that the options have not been
overriden.
6) When an EM structure uses more memory that you have available the EM
Memory graph will be automatically displayed. The graph is also
available from the project menu now. It has also been significantly
improved to give a better indication of the total memory used by an
EM structure.
7) New elements have been added and problems fixed with the importing of
touchstone and mmicad netlists.
8) Bipolar devices now converge significantly better than in previous
versions. New continuation parameters are accessed from the Default
Ckt Options/Circuit Solvers in the project pane.
9) During long simulations the cursor now changes to an hourglass to
indicate that the simulator is working. This will be especially
helpful during tuning of large circuits. In prior versions users
often thought that the simulator was hung or crashed during tuning
because it gave no indication that it was working.
10) In prior versions you were limited to 6 tuning elements. This has
been increased to 12.
11) When you do a Save As... you can now specify that you want to save the
file in version 2.5 format.
12) Improvement in existing optimizers as well as addition of new ones.
The old gradient optimizer has been renamed to Direction Set Method
which better represents the method used. New Gradient and
Conjugate Gradient optimizers have been added.
a) Spice models
Spice uses different node ordering on active devices that Microwave
Office does. This lead to incorrect results when importing these
models into a schematic. We now properly reorder the nodes on FET
and BJT devices and subcircuits.
b) Substrate models now read in correctly
A model read error occurs when trying to read these models in 2.5
c) Problems with TF parameter on bipolar.
Models with a non-zero value for the TF parameter would give an
incorrect answer. There was a patch for this problem and the patch
has been incorporated into this release.
d) DC solution of EM structures now properly computed
Adding a frequency of zero (0) to the frequency list will now cause
the em simulator to properly compute the DC response of a structure
so that it can be used in harmonic balance simulations.
e) Fixed crash that occured when a non-linear circuit was tuned
into a non-convergence region.
g) Problem with tuner value being changed when adding tuning
elements is fixed.
h) Significant improvements in mstep model and additional checking
has been added to other microstrip models.
