InstallShield Developer 8 provide full control over Windows Installer
(MSI) setups, enabling powerful new features of this technology, such
as application auto-repair and install-on-demand. The Developer IDE
exposes all the capabilities of the Windows Installer architecture
via task-based views and over 20 wizards, plus it offers an MSI
database project type and a Windows Installer Table Editor for
fine-tuning an installation. In addition, Developer extends the
Windows Installer technology with scripting capabilities, including
InstallScript and VBscript, to meet unique customization requirements
such as the creation of specialized user interface dialogs.
InstallShield Developer also supports the .NET Framework, Web
Services, and 64-bit applications to meet the next generation of
installation requirements. Developer is the successor to
InstallShield Windows Installer Edition, and a migration option for
InstallShield Professional and InstallShield Express users. Key new
features for current Developer users include enhanced patch and
upgrade creation, clean build system support, Windows CE support,
InstallScript Objects, MSI database and Transform project types, and
runtime skins. Within the InstallShield product line, features unique
to Developer include integration with the Visual Studio .NET IDE, a
QuickPatch project type, a complete automation interface, and a
visual dialog editor.
